Low taper fade
Also called: Low taper, clean taper
The most school-friendly fade. Sides blend low near the ears, top stays longer. Grows out well and works for most dress codes.

Fade
Sides and back blend from longer hair down to shorter length or skin.
Taper
Hair shortens gradually at the temples and neckline without going fully bald.
Skin fade
Fade blends all the way down to bare skin on the sides.
Lineup
Sharp, clean edges along the hairline, temples, and neck.
Edgar
Blunt, straight fringe across the forehead with faded sides.
Broccoli cut
Curly or wavy volume on top with short faded sides. Same family as wet mop or blowout taper.
Textured crop
Short sides with piecey, choppy length on top.
Curtains
Center-parted fringe with length and movement on top.
Wolf cut / modern mullet
Shorter sides, longer layered back, textured finish.
Burst fade
Fade that curves around the ear, common with mullets.
How to Ask Your Barber
- Bring 2 or 3 photos: front, side, and back if the style has length.
- Say how short the sides should be: low taper, mid fade, or skin fade.
- Say how much length you want on top and whether you use product.
- Mention school, sports, or work rules if your look needs to stay conservative.
- It is okay if you only know the TikTok name. We will translate slang into a real cut.

What is an Edgar haircut?
An Edgar is a short cut with a blunt, straight fringe and faded or tapered sides. It is popular with teens across Southern California. Show your barber a front-view photo and say how high you want the fade.
How often should a teenager get a fade?

Can you do a broccoli cut without a perm?
If your hair is already wavy or curly, yes. Straight hair can get a similar look with length on top and a taper, but true broccoli volume often needs texture or a perm. Ask your barber what is realistic for your hair type.
